The latest verdicts from the Nations League are in: there has been a change, and the Red Devils now know their potential opponents. There will be tricky matches on the program…

We already knew two of the Red Devils’ four potential opponents for the upcoming Nations League play-off: Greece and Austria. From now on, all the play-offs are known, following the results this Tuesday evening in groups 1 and 4.

In group 1, there is change. Indeed, Albania hosted Ukraine and collapsed, losing (1-2) against Sergei Rebrov’s men, notably with a goal from ex-Bruges player Roman Yaremchuk. Ukraine thus escapes the play-offs for maintenance, and accesses the play-offs for promotion to League A.

Indeed, Georgia, which could have overtaken Ukraine in the event of a victory, lost on the pitch of the Czech Republic (2-1), which goes directly to the Nations League A. It is therefore the Ukraine that our Devils could face, and the memory of Euro 2024 would then be on everyone’s minds.

Surprise in group 4 on the other hand: when we thought that they had done the hardest part, Turkey lost heavily (3-1) in Montenegro, although already condemned to the descent to League C. The Country of Wales having, for their part, crushed Iceland (4-1), it is Turkey who will be the barrier, and there too, their progress at the Euro can be worrying.

Greece, Austria, Ukraine or Turkey: it will therefore be one of these 4 teams that Belgium will have to outclass next March to ensure its maintenance in League A. Suffice it to say that the Red Devils will have an interest in raising their level of play!
