Lamborghini World Finals – Hampus Ericsson and Renaud Kuppens first winners in Jerez

Hampus Ericsson (Target Racing) dominated the first race of the Lamborghini World Finals this Saturday at the Jerez circuit.

Amaury Bonduel (BDR Competition by Grupo Prom), titled in Super Trofeo Europe yesterday, however took the best start from pole, but was hit by Danny Formal (WTR with Andretti) braking for the first corner, sending the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 n°28 golden in the gravel trap. The race is logically neutralized as Hampus Ericsson (Target Racing) takes the lead ahead of Andy Lee (Flying Lizard Motorsports).

Ericsson leads until the driver change window, before the safety car is deployed after Andrea Frassinetti (VSR) goes off the track.

The Swede maintains the advantage after passing through the pitlane, and resumes his domination in front of Edgar Maloigne (Iron Lynx). But a new safety car was put in place less than 10' from the checkerboard after the collective incident involving Paul Levet (Oregon Team), Benedetto Strignano (Villorba Corse) and Slade Stewart (Flying Lizard).

Ericsson remained in the lead at the restart a little over 4' from the end ahead of Maloigne and Bryson Morris (ANSA) and won in the end ahead of Morris and his teammate Loris Cabirou. Maloigne and Georgi Dimitrov complete the podium overall and in Pro.

In Pro-Am, victory for Brendon Leitch and Anthony McIntosh (Leipert Motorsport) who won ahead of Nicholas Persing – Nathan Stacy (WTR with Andretti) and Milos Pavlovic – Alessio Ruffini (ASR).

Boutsen VDS winner in Am

In the Am and Lamborghini Cup race, Renaud Kuppens (Boutsen VDS) won after a lively end of the race. Stéphane Lémeret (CMR) nevertheless got the better of poleman Stéphane Tribaudini at the first corner, leading the first stint by controlling the neutralizations and before the driver changes.

A phase which gives the advantage back to Piergiacomo Randazzo, Tribaudini's teammate, who takes the lead again ahead of Rodrigue Gillion. The latter then cannot resist Anthony McIntosh (WTR with Andretti). The race was however neutralized following the exit of the track by Changwoo Lee (SQDA – Grit Motorsport). The restart with less than four minutes to go offers a four-way fight for victory.

McIntosh tries his luck and pulls off a nice maneuver but Randazzo responds and hits the Lamborghini entered in Super Trofeo America. The Italian regains the advantage and wins under the checkerboard ahead of Renaud Kuppens (Boutsen VDS) and Andrzej and Adrian Lewandowski (ASR). But a 5″ penalty for Randazzo for contact with McIntosh ultimately gave victory to Renaud Kuppens, when the Lewandowski family also received a penalty, this time of 30″ for overtaking under a yellow flag. McIntosh and Glenn McGee finished 2nd ahead of Tribaudini and Randazzo.

Holger Harmsen (GT3 Poland) won the Lamborghini Cup ahead of Jonathan Hirshberg (Forte Racing) and Alfredo Hernandez Ortega (BDR Competition by Grupo Prom).
