The Young Devils tried everything to beat the Czech Republic. But a major lack of efficiency, combined with two huge defensive mistakes, made things particularly difficult.
The U21 of the Red Devils are not in good shape. In the first leg of the play-offs for a ticket to the U21 European Championship, they were defeated by the Czech Republic on Friday, due to two very avoidable mistakes. So the disappointment was enormous among the players. Lucas Stassin could testify to it.
“There is great disappointment. We had opportunities to do better, but we have to accept it. We have to do more, try to make fewer of those little mistakes that cost goals, and be more efficient up front,” the striker begins.
Efficiency, a key word. The Young Devils had many chances in the first half, even more in the second, saw Stassin’s goal disallowed for offside, but ultimately failed to beat the Czech keeper. Belgium had many more chances than their opponent, but did not take advantage of them.
However, in a duo up front with Roméo Vermant, Lucas Stassin tried everything. “We had several options, the goalkeeper made a few good saves. With Roméo we both had chances. The result of the match really does not reflect the course of the match,” lamented the Saint-Etienne player.
So at least three goals will have to be scored in the Czech Republic to be able to go to the European U21 Championship. Difficult, but certainly not impossible.
