An investigation published by Mediapart on Friday, November 15, reveals that rebellious MP Andy Kerbrat used large sums of mandate fees to buy drugs. He admitted to having “done anything”, before reimbursing the National Assembly.
The investigation into the arrest of MP Andy Kerbrat is progressing. As revealed by Mediapart, Friday November 15, the elected representative of La France insoumise (LFI), arrested in Paris on October 17 while buying narcotics, would have used his AFM account, the advance of mandate fees funded each month of 4,700 euros by the National Assembly, for his drug consumption.
Our colleagues describe a well-established system dating back several months. Andy Kerbrat allegedly made large cash withdrawals amounting to more than 13,000 euros and also transferred money from his AFM account to his personal account. Unjustified payments via PayPal or Lydia for around 25,000 euros are also mentioned. The MP's rate of personal spending is such that his AFM account plunges into the red and has a negative balance of 8,000 euros in August 2023.
25,000 euros reimbursed to the National Assembly
To Mediapart, Andy Kerbrat admitted to having “do anything” and confirms having used this envelope of public money. The LFI deputy nevertheless affirms that this money was not used directly to buy drugs but to finance his lifestyle as a general rule. He has since reimbursed the National Assembly of 25,000 euros by making several payments thanks to “a family helper“. After admitting to suffering from addiction for years, Andy Kerbrat is currently on sick leave and must soon be interned, at his request.
