4 things to know about his new album “I lied”

Belgian rapper Damso presented his new album “J'ai menti” on Friday, November 15. A surprise opus, which the artist released a few months before BĒYĀH, expected in May 2025, and which the star announced as being his last.

A surprise album

If Damso has carefully orchestrated the release of this new opus since the end of October, notably offering his fans several listening sessions in Brussels, , , , and Montreal, “J'ai menti” is not left out. minus a surprise album. Nothing suggested the release of this fifth studio album, after “Batterie weak”, released in 2016, followed by “Lithopédion” (2018), “QALF” (2020) and “Ipséité” (2017).

A flash production

Only three months is the time it took Damso, 32, to write, record and produce the eleven tracks of this new album. An opus whose idea germinated this summer after a meeting of the rapper with a fan at the corner of a street, the latter having asked the artist with rare productions to take up his pen again, as told by the Parisian. Known for being a perfectionist, Damso has never released an album so quickly.

A third duet with Angèle

This opus marks the third collaboration between Damso and Angèle. The two Belgians have in fact signed a third duet on this album with the title “Everything to try”, after “Silence”, their first collaboration in 2018, and “Démons”, three years later. Angèle is not the only one to make an appearance on this disc since French rappers Kalask and Kalash Criminel are respectively present on the tracks “Limbisa ngai” and “Alpha”. Damso also signs a duet with his brother Michkavie on the title “Money”.

The penultimate album of his career

“J'ai menti” could be the penultimate studio album from Damso, one of the most popular French-speaking rappers. Last July, the Belgian artist announced on his networks that he would retire from music after the release of BĒYĀH, an opus expected on May 30, 2025 and finished on August 1, as Damso announced on his networks. However, this is not the first time that the artist has explained that he wants to bow out. He had already mentioned this option two years ago.
