“I am amazed, amazed and outraged”reacts Thursday November 14 on franceinfo, Bruno Gollnisch, ex-MEP, ex-number 2 of the National Front, after the requisitions of the prosecution, which calls for a sentence of ineligibility for all the defendants, including Marine Le Pen, in the trial of parliamentary assistants of the National Front, which became the National Rally.
“We have not broken any rule of criminal law. Everything we have done, we have done it in a public, peaceful, unequivocal manner,” insists Bruno Gollnisch, who risks five years of ineligibility. Prosecutors requested that this sentence be accompanied by a “provisional execution”, that is to say that it apply immediately, even if they appeal. “It’s absolutely crazy”commente Bruno Gollnisch.
For the former number 2 of the RN, “it has been proven that there was no fictitious employment”, taking into account the fact that “all the assistants worked”. “We have local assistants who, according to the rules of parliament, are not allowed to come to Strasbourg or Brussels,” says the former MEP. “What do you want to do with assistants who, by definition, cannot attend votes, committee work, group meetings, who therefore cannot participate in legislative work, except is to assist the MP in his political work?” defends the former FN MEP. “What is the rule of law which prohibits assistants from assisting the deputy in his political work, in his constituency?” asks Bruno Gollnisch. According to him, “this proves a total ignorance of the practices in the European Parliament.”
The prosecution requested five years in prison, including two years subject to change, and five years of ineligibility against Marine Le Pen. For Bruno Gollnisch, we are facing a political trial. “It will be judged like this throughout the world.”he warns. “If the main leader of the opposition, a candidate in the presidential election, who reached the final twice and is well placed to win the next time, was prevented from standing for the French vote under such pretexts, this would transform the France in a banana republic”he concludes.
