In the first game between the teams in the final of the Copa do Brasil, the red and black fans did not fail to provoke their rival from Minas Gerais.
There was a mosaic remembering the five victories of the Copa do Brasil.
And even the famous cry of “I believe” from the Atlético-MG fans was mocked by the red and black fans.
Furthermore, it was the first game at Maracanã after Gabigol's dismissal by Flamengo's board.
The striker, however, was on the pitch and dressed in Zico's sacred number 10 shirt and in the box, even though he claimed to be in the stands.
The red and black fans even showed that they were on Gabigol's side in the “arm wrestling” with the board.
With the ball rolling, Flamengo dominated most of the time.
In the first half alone, there were 14 shots at the Black and White goal, with at least four great chances.
One of them, in fact, was the penalty saved by David Luiz by goalkeeper Everson, a big name in the match. Argentine Alcaraz had even asked to take the charge.
After the break, Rubro-Negro continued to give Galo's goalkeeper trouble. After just five minutes, Matheus Gonçalves even hit Everson's post.
But, in the second half of the final stage, Flamengo dropped in production, and Atlético-MG started to pose more danger, even though they didn't create as many chances to score.
Before the next round of the Brasileirão, Galo returns to the field on Saturday (16), when it visits Athletico-PR, at the Ligga Arena, in a delayed match.
