It's a football match in the League of Nations but the sporting stakes are overtaken by the political impact. The -Israel meeting this evening at 8:45 p.m. at the Stade de France will be closely monitored from a security point of view with 4,000 police and gendarmes mobilized, plus numerous personalities in the stands, starting with the Head of State.

The match between France and Israel this Thursday evening at 8:45 p.m. at the Stade de France is placed under high security after the violence which shook the city during the Israelis' last trip. But in addition to the security aspect, it is politics that is invited during this meeting. Many personalities will be present in the stands, starting with Emmanuel Macron.

Top political figures in the stands

Emmanuel Macron did not go to the march against anti-Semitism last year on the pretext that it was not his role. This time, there is no question of him missing the fifth day of group two of the League of Nations. And for good reason, a week after the anti-Semitic attacks that occurred in Amsterdam, the head of state wants to appear as a unifier.

A way of saying “we will not give up anything” deciphers one of those close to him. In the corridors of the Élysée, we are delighted that the presence of the head of state has led to others. Prime Minister Michel Barnier, the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau and even government spokesperson Maud Bregeon, have confirmed their arrival, as have Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande. The latter, elected deputy last July under the banner of the new Popular Front, thus distances himself from France Insoumise, which has not stopped in recent days demanding the cancellation of the match.
