“I owe it to Michel”: Gad Elmaleh pays a vibrant tribute to Michel Denisot

It's a great evening which is being held on Wednesday November 13, 2024. Yann Barthès received former colleagues from the Grand Journal from Canal +, for a special occasion: the 20th anniversary of the show and the 40th anniversary of Canal +. The opportunity to have surprise guests like Gad Elmaleh.

This evening, TMC viewers were treated to an evening rich in nostalgia and emotions, while Michel Denisot was at the heart of a special program, Michel Denisot doesn't like birthdays. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Canal+ and the 20th anniversary of Grand Journalthis show pays tribute to one of the most emblematic faces of the channel and French television. Michel Denisot, now 79 years old, left his mark on an entire generation of viewers by directing The Grand Journal from 2004 to 2013, a time when this flagship show brought together millions of French people every evening. This celebration is also an opportunity for him to reunite with Yann Barthès, who started alongside him as a columnist in The Grand Journalbut not only that. Arianne Massenet, Laurent Weil, Augustin Trapenard and Mouloud Achour were around the table to relive these memories through archives.

Gad Elmaleh indebted to Michel Denisot

They were not the only personalities to come to celebrate this great evening with of the extremely famous host who left his mark on television. Omar Sy went to the set to sing him a happy birthday and take the opportunity to recall some memories. Then it's Gad Elmaleh, one of the first guests of the Grand Journal and the first sponsor of the showwho spoke through a video. He revealed that if his career had taken off, it was to Michel Denisot that he owed it.

“I have a very, very strong memory, because I don't know if Michel Denisot understands the extent to which what happened in one of his shows was decisive in my path as an artist, in my career”, he admitted. He returned on May 16, 2007, where he met one of his idols Seinfeld on set. “He knew he was the comedian who inspired me the most”he explained. This meeting with his “mentor, his master” was decisive: “I owe it to Michel and I don’t think he knows about it.” For his part, Michel Denisot discovered this testimony with emotion, stating: “I’m glad it was helpful to him because it was free.”
