Created in 2020 to ensure greater practicality in payments made by Brazilians, the PIX has undergone a series of updates. The changes are being made by the Central Bank (BC) as a way to especially guarantee the safety of Brazilian citizens who use instant payment methods.
Recently, the BC informed that it will carry out a important update to the payment format. After announcing a series of changes to prevent fraud and even scams using PIX, the institution also announced a new restriction for the payment method.
Find out what will change in PIX and the update date:
- According to FDR specialist, Laura Alvarenga, the bank will only release PIX to banks that are duly authorized to operate in Brazil;
- Currently, this requirement for using PIX does not exist for financial institutions;
- The change should come into force from January 1, 2025;
- The update will be carried out as a way to avoid fraud and scams using the payment format;
- This is because, with release only to authorized institutions, it will be easier to monitor those who use the PIX;
- It is worth remembering that, at the beginning of this month, the Central Bank already determined new rules for the use of the payment method;
- Now, only citizens who have properly registered devices can make payments of more than R$200;
- According to Jornal O Globo, a limit on payments per day was also determined in case of lack of registration;
- The maximum released by the bank in this type of situation is a total of R$1,000 per day;
- If you wish to make larger payments, you will need to register with the bank to have the payment released.
“These measures aim to make regulatory requirements compatible with the level of operational requirements required to offer instant payments to customers, in addition to making the supervisory activity carried out by the BC more effective,” stated the BC in an official note.
