70 million people worldwide now use Netflix’s cheaper, ad-supported subscription model every month. President of Advertising, Amy Reinhard, made the announcement today on the two-year anniversary of the introduction of the ad tier. In May, this number of active users was still 40 million.
Reinhard spoke of “positive momentum” for Netflix with advertising and that there was steady growth in all countries where the ad-supported subscription model has already been introduced. Meanwhile, more than 50 percent of new registrations in countries like Germany, where the advertising-supported subscription model has already been introduced, are for the subscription version with advertising.
