SUPERSTAR singer Olivia Roderigo has been signed as the headline act at Hyde Park British Summertime concert next year.
The 21-year-old singer will perform her set on Friday 27th June and is now the fifth artist to join the illustrious line up, joining singer and movie star Hugh Jackman, Noah Kahan and Jeff Lynes, Electric Light Orchestra.
Supporting acts will come in the form of The Last Dinner Party and Girl in Red as tickets go on sale, this Friday November 15th.
Speculation is mounting that Olivia could also play Glastonbury as the worthy farm festival falls the same weekend as BST.
The US singer has become one of the most sought after popstars in the world after her 2021 debut album, Sour, outsold Adele.
Then her single Drivers Licence went viral and became a world number one and the singer was left doubting whether she was cut out for fame.
Speaking in the Disney documentary, Driving Home to You, Olivia said she felt underprepared for all the adulation. She said:
““I remember just feeling kind of trapped and kind of flung into this situation that I wasn’t prepared for.
“It was very like, overnight, all of a sudden, everyone’s watching you. I’m like, ‘Did I ever actually want this?’ That was the big question.
“That period of my life was very strange. I remember feeling lonely and I remember wanting a boyfriend very bad. That was during a time when I looked through what people said about me online and in print and I was still reeling from this heartbreak and all of this drama that went all around it.”
Having got her break in showbiz on the Disney telly show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, the California-born actress spent lockdown working on debut album Sour, which has since compared to Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill and Adele’s 25.
Then with the help from TikTok and the emotional kick of a messy break-up, the 21 year old now boasts a platinum album, seven Grammy nominations and an estimated net worth of £3.75million.
Her hit single Drivers Lience which was streamed 17 million times, was reportedly inspired by her split from Disney co-star Joshua Bassett, 24, who went on to date Girl Meets World actress-turned popstar, Sabrina Carpenter, 25.
Drivers License is about a girl crying about a lost love while driving after passing her test — a true story, Rodrigo says.
