Beyond his missed penalty during Real Madrid's defeat at Liverpool (0-2), Kylian Mbappé again delivered a tasteless, and worrying, performance at Anfield. And the Spanish press does not spare him.

“Everyone expected him, and he failed miserably.” Like the Catalans from Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish press is not kind to Kylian Mbappé, who once again appeared in great difficulty on Wednesday evening in Liverpool. At Anfield, Real Madrid, beaten 2-0, recorded their third defeat in the Champions League and only occupies 24th place in the standings, the last qualifier for the play-offs to reach the round of 16.

While the title holders were only one goal behind, Mbappé had the opportunity to equalize with a penalty on the hour mark. But he saw his attempt, not very well executed, diverted by Caoimhin Kelleher, the Irish goalkeeper of the Reds. His first failure in the exercise, after three successes which represent a third of his goals in the Merengue jersey in 18 matches.

“Mbappé has no excuse”

Beyond this miss, the former Parisian, who played in his favorite position, on the left side, in the absence of Vinicius, missed everything or almost, with only two shots, for one on target, three successful dribbles out of six, but without doing much, and above all the worst percentage of successful passes on the Madrid side (75%), as well as the greatest number of lost balls (15).

For AS, “Mbappé has no excuse” and he has been, since his arrival in the Spanish capital, “far from what we expected from a supposed extraterrestrial”. The captain of the Blues is “not a versatile attacker, as we thought, but an area finisher”, asserts the Spanish daily, for whom, in big matches, “his influence is close to zero”.

Marca, another newspaper in the capital, believes that Mbappé, still defended by Carlo Ancelotti, is “a reflection of the situation at Real”, and he is only “a shadow of what he is supposed to be”. “Without Vinicius, on the night he was most expected, he had a disastrous match.”
