Barcelona manager Hansi Flick said his team were denied a “clear goal” during Sunday’s La Liga defeat to Real Sociedad.
Robert Lewandowski thought he’d opened the scoring in the first half but saw his effort disallowed by VAR, with the images appearing to show the striker was offside by a toenail.
However, it subsequently emerged that the VAR had confused Lewandowski’s boot with the defender’s and the goal should have stood.
Flick was in no doubt at all that the officials had got it all wrong. He told the media afterwards: “It was the wrong decision from the VAR. It’s a clear goal but we have to accept it. It was not our day today.”
However, the Barcelona boss refused to blame the decision for his team’s defeat and said he has told his players they must accept the result and move on.
“In the first half we suffered, the second half was better, but at the end we made the wrong decisions in the final third. We didn’t have the strength to score goals today,” he added.
“I said to the team we have to accept it, absolutely clear, but at the end we’ll come back stronger.”
La Liga now pauses for the international break. Barcelona return to action on November 23 away at Celta Vigo.
