It's penta! Flamengo beats Atlético-MG and wins the Copa do Brasil title

Flamengo champion of the Copa do Brasil 2024! The red and black team took advantage of the advantage obtained in the first duel, scored a great goal this Sunday (10) and beat Atlético-MG 1-0 at Arena MRV, winning the national title.

In the first duel, last Sunday (3) at Maracanã, Flamengo had beaten the Minas Gerais team 3-1. In the very final this afternoon, Ecuadorian Gonzalo Plata was the scorer of the only goal of the duel, in the 37th minute of the second stage.

With the victory in Minas Gerais, Flamengo ties with Grêmio with five titles in the history of the Copa do Brasil. Rubro-negro won in 1990, 2006, 2013, 2022 and 2024.

The national title also guarantees Flamengo a direct place in the group stage of the Libertadores 2025.

First half of Atlético-MG x Flamengo

In a busy first half, Atlético-MG, pushed by its fans, went after Flamengo, betting on the triangulations of its athletes. The big attacks went through Zaracho and Scarpa, who were looking for Paulinho and Hulk.

The Atletico team gave red-black goalkeeper Rossi a hard time and almost opened the scoring after the Argentine's mistake. At 35, Rossi tried to play for Pulgar, got tangled up and Paulinho almost filled the net.

Flamengo, in turn, suffered behind, but was not intimidated by Atletico's pressure, managing to create dangerous plays in the first half, mainly on the right.

The red-black team's main chances came from Gerson, in the 2nd minute, and Arrascaeta, in a fishy header, in the 24th minute.

Second half

Time was passing and Galo only had 45 more minutes to take the advantage of his rival. Gabriel Milito bet on Alan Kardec in the second half, Atlético-MG pressed even more from the front, but ran into an inspired afternoon from Rossi.

Flamengo knew that Galo was going up and bet on speed. Bruno Henrique wasted two great plays, in the 6th and 17th minutes. At 20 it was Michael's turn to miss a great chance after trying to dribble past goalkeeper Everson.

Atlético-MG kept trying, working the ball in attack but the nervousness was increasing and benefiting the red and black team.

Fla managed to balance the game and scored in the 37th minute. Bruno Henrique launched the Ecuadorian Plata, who provided a covering touch, taking Everson out of the play and scoring a great goal at Arena MRV.

From then on, regrettable scenes of confusion between fans and athletes forced the game to be stopped. Objects and even bombs were thrown towards the red and black players.

The game resumed, Everson even avoided Flamengo's second goal in two dangerous moves, and the red and black team just waited for the final whistle to let out the champion's cry!
