This Sunday, like all the competitors, Violette Dorange took the start of the Vendée Globe. At 23, the skipper is the youngest in the history of this event.

Kick-off of the new edition of the Vendée Globe! All the participants set off this Sunday for two and a half months at sea. Among the lucky ones, we find, in particular, the Frenchwoman Violette Dorange. Now only 23 years, 6 months and 23 days old, the Tricolore becomes the youngest skipper in the history of this prestigious event. Obviously questioned on the subject, the main interested party responded, in comments reported by RMC Sport: “I think about it often. And then, age is just a number! In the end, it starts to add up to several “I've had sporting projects like this for years, even if it's a major change of scale, the logic remains the same, and I try to live it in the same way.”

Dorange: “Being in their place one day has always been a life goal”

The organization also questioned Violette Dorange, concerning, in particular, the moment when the skipper realized that she was capable of participating in the Vendée Globe: “I don't know yet if I'm capable of it (laughs)! I know that I always told myself that it was for me Since I was little, I went to see the departures, the descent of the Chenal des Sables, it was always a life goal. From my first Solitaire du Figaro in 2020, I felt that the window of opportunity was good and that there could be an opportunity. It was really from there that I took on the challenge of doing it. and since I don't like to give up on a challenge, here I am today.” Violette Dorange stood out at the age of 15, during her first crossing of the Channel in an Optimist. Since then, the Frenchwoman has gained experience. In 2023, the Tricolore arrived in Imoca, recovering the “Hubert” from the legendary Jean Le Cam, aged 65 and the oldest participant in this edition of the Vendée Globe.
