The kick-off of the “Everest of the seas”, which is held every four years, is scheduled for this Sunday, November 10 from Les Sables-d’Olonne (Vendée).
It is THE great world meeting for all fans of sailing and racing on the (very) open sea: the Vendée Globe. The 10th edition of the “Everest of the seas” sets off this Sunday, November 10, from Les Sables-d’Olonne.
On the program for the 40 skippers engaged this year, 40,000 km to sail on the waves of four oceans, and three reference capes to tame: Horn, Bonne Espérance and Leeuwin.

As the competition is only held every four years, a large number of spectators are expected on the Vendée pontoons this Sunday for the big departure. A kick-off which is expected at a very specific time: 1:02 p.m. But why this specific schedule?

In a discipline where the weight of sponsors is significant (patrons finance the boats), the key moment which constitutes the departure must benefit from maximum exposure. The 1:02 p.m. schedule guarantees organizers the best media exposure; at the opening, for example, of the mid-day television news. 1 p.m. being a slightly too early time, because we have to give time for these major information events to get underway, before being able to connect with a live broadcast of the race.
