Benjamin Bonzi won the first ATP tournament of his career this Saturday in . In the final, the Frenchman got the better of the British Cameron Norrie (7-6(6), 6-4).

What a week! At the Metz tournament where he had to struggle in qualifying before entering the main draw, Benjamin Bonzi waited until the last competition of the year to pocket his first victory on the ATP circuit in 2024. Then in the second round he beat for the first time a resident of the world top 10, the Norwegian Casper Ruud. In great shape, the Nîmes continued this momentum until the final where he got the better of Cameron Norrie this Saturday with a score of 7-6(6), 6-4 in almost two hours of struggle.

A first title and a colossal leap in the ATP rankings

The word is not weak because the fight was fierce. At 4-4 in the first set, Benjamin Bonzi saved ten break points! Then in the deciding game, during which he also saved a set point, his joy was naturally increased tenfold when he won this incredible showdown thanks to his three consecutive points. In the second round, the Frenchman showed more control to outclass the Briton. First by converting the only break point obtained at 1-1. Then showing solidity on serve, not giving in to pressure and also serving six aces in this round.

Never titled, Benjamin Bonzi collapsed after the match point awarding him at 28 the first title of his career. A joy commensurate with his jump in the ATP rankings as well. Ranked 124th before entering the competition, he will move up to 77th at the start of the week.
