In the Valencia region (Spain), last week's floods left 217 dead and 93 missing. On site, research continues, as do clearing operations. A question comes up: what to do with the countless car wrecks?

Like a huge open-air scrapyard, in the Valencia region (Spain), and all around the affected towns, dozens of vacant lots are covered with car wrecks. It is on these grounds that they are stored, while a lasting solution is found.

In the streets of Benetússer (Spain), the endless lines of cars remind residents of the nightmare of the floods ten days ago. The emergency is now to evacuate vehicles in order to restore traffic: “We have been collecting dirty cars for seven days, and there are months and months left”says a person responsible for clearing. 100,000 destroyed or damaged cars would be affected.

The army was mobilized, as well as businesses and farmers on a voluntary basis. The hardest part is dealing with cars stuck in underground parking lots.
