AZ recorded a nice win over Fenerbahçe in the Europa League on Thursday. In the aftermath, analyst Alex Pastoor had words of praise for captain Sven Mijnans and youngster Kees Smit, who made the 2-1 as a substitute.
“That’s really fantastic,” Pastoor was visibly enjoying himself at Ziggo Sport. ‘You felt in advance in the stadium: he won’t… Yes, he will. The calm and overview that that little guy has with the ball is really unbelievable.’
Pastoor saw an important role being claimed by Sven Mijnans. ‘He seems to have become a very chic team player both in defense and in attack. He reminds me a little bit – in terms of playing a role – of Liverpool’s Szoboszlai. You also see them accept, play, put others in possession of the ball, occasionally something brilliant. Perhaps a good level to grow to for Sven.’
The former trainer wanted to add some context to compliments for trainer Maarten Martens for bringing young talents. ‘They were brought out of poverty and not out of luxury. Because there are seven absent.’
