– The data of more than 19 million Free customers, including 5.1 million IBANs, was stolen.

After SFR, Boulanger and Travail, Free revealed, on October 25, that it had in turn been the victim of a major cyberattack. Consequence: the data from more than 19 million peopledont 5,1 millions d’IBANwere stolen. If the operator has filed a complaint and an investigation has been entrusted to the cybercrime brigade, customers can, for their part, file a complaint online. In a press release published on October 30, relayed by Sud Ouest, the National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (Cnil) explains that Free users can file complaints in two ways.

This process can be carried out either directly from the CNILvia its online complaint service or by post, if they consider that their “personal data was not sufficiently secured” ; either to the police or gendarmerieif they are victims “identity theft, scam or fraudulent payments”.

A toll-free number to help Free customers

In addition, the agency, which “has observed several personal data breaches concerning organizations known to the general public in recent weeks”recalls a series of precautions to take in order to limit the risks of fraudulent exploitation of its banking data. The CNIL therefore advises regularly monitor operations on their bank account and to object if necessary, but also to check the list of your authorized creditors in their online banking space.

“When receiving a pre-filled direct debit mandate, or a purported update thereof, be vigilant about the information describing the creditor to avoid misappropriation of your payments”she adds.

Furthermore, after this large-scale cyberattack, Free implemented a toll free number in order to help its subscribers. The operator has in fact deployed a complete assistance devicewith a toll-free number accessible 7 days a week to provide advice to customers who are victims of this data leak in order to secure their confidential information.
