New torrential rains in Spain. Just a few days after the dramatic floods which caused the death of more than 200 people in the Valencia region, the “cold drop” affecting the country is causing further precipitation a little further north. Barcelona and part of Catalonia were placed on red alertthis Monday, November 4.

“Extreme danger due to torrential rains”. In Spain, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) classified the metropolitan area of ​​Barcelona and its coastline on red alert at the start of the week. After Valencia, Catalonia has been affected by heavy rainfall for several hours.

Impressive runoffs

A few hundred kilometers from Perpignan and the French-Spanish border, torrential rains sweep across Catalonia. “Avoid any travel to and from the urban area”, insists for his part Weather Pyrenees. Residents of Barcelona also received an alert from civil protection on their cell phones:

200mm of rain expected in 24 hours

According to the first data collected, we already note more than 100mm of rain on the Catalan coast. Accumulations could exceed 200mm at the end of the day.

And this episode of extremely rare intensity is far from over. This Tuesday, November 5, the rains will again head further south. The cities of Tarragona and Tortosastill in Catalonia, will still be affected by heavy rains. Between 150 and 300mm of additional precipitation could fall.
