Francesco Farioli lacks superlatives for Jordan Henderson. The 33-year-old midfielder plays a crucial role at Ajax and guided his team to victories against Feyenoord (0-2) and PSV (3-2) last week. Farioli is very happy with the Englishman and praises his professionalism.
“He brings us very, very much,” says the trainer of Amsterdammers in conversation with The Telegraph. “He is a super professional. He was on the training field for thirty minutes on Friday, after which he worked on his recovery from seven in the evening – the moment we arrived at the hotel – until three o’clock on Saturday afternoon. He only came down to food and for the meetings. And all the other hours he was with the physiotherapists to get ready for the clash against PSV.”
In his article, Ajax watcher Mike Verweij even compares Henderson with Dusan Tadic in terms of his football obsession. The 35-year-old Serbian played for Ajax from 2018 to 2023, where he scored 105 goals and 112 assists in 241 matches. Farioli: “With this motivation and commitment to the club and the team, he proves to be an exemplary professional and captain.”
Henderson’s teammate Fitz-Jim is also full of praise for the former Liverpool player, who came over on a free transfer from Al-Ettifaq in January 2023. “Jordan is really a leader. He tries to involve all the boys in the process, because he has been around for so long and has so much knowledge. So when he says something, you listen.”
For example, the midfielder, who was named man of the match against PSV, reveals that he and his teammates took an ice bath after the match against Feyenoord. “We didn’t do that last season. We are now much better at our job. In that respect, we certainly have to look in the mirror. Last year was not good in almost every respect.”
