– Stade Rennais: hits rock bottom at Abbé-Deschamps and sinks into crisis

For the 10th day of Ligue 1, Stade Rennes traveled to Auxerre this Sunday and lost heavily, plunging into crisis.

Auxerre 4-0 Rennes

After its victory against , Rennes traveled to Auxerre with the objective of bringing back points but also of showing a different side. Julien Stéphan continued his 4-3-3 in which Matusiwa made his return, just like Ostigard. Gronbaek and Gouiri started on the bench, Gomez and Jota continued.

Atrocious first half

In red, Rennes kicked off but Auxerre got their foot on the ball and did not take advantage of a first error from Ostigard (1st). Mensah subsequently eliminated Matusiwa then Hateboer before trying his luck from afar, off target (4th). Rennes reacted with a breakthrough on the left, without an opportunity at the end however.

SRFC finally opened the scoring from a corner, when Ostigard, well launched, propelled a header towards Léon who made a great save! The goalkeeper on the ground cleared his foot… into the arm of Kalimuendo who scored but his goal was logically canceled by the VAR (12th). AJA then built and on a good move Bair found himself alone in the area to take a volley well caught by Mandanda (15th). Danes then, at the end of another sequence, tried his luck from afar, hitting right next to Mandanda's cage (17th). Perrin also infiltrated the heart of the Rennes game and struck outside the box, and off target (20th).

On rare offensives, Rennes was imprecise like Jota who struck from afar and well above (20th). Auxerre continued to press on a Rennes right side in great pain, and Hateboer and Ostigard let Traoré curl his shot which hit Mandanda's post (21st)! AJA was logically rewarded by a shot outside the area from Perrin following a poor recovery from Matusiwa. The Auxerrois' attempt, the 6th (5th outside the area…) ended in Mandanda's small net (29th). 1-0, logical.

The Rennais then sank in, conceding a second goal from Perrin… On a counterattack from the left, Traoré was inexplicably found alone in the center in the middle, and served as a nice opening for Perrin, arriving behind Truffert's back on the other side (39th). The attacker finished ahead of Mandanda, 2-0. Rennes returned to the locker room without reacting, author of one of its worst halves of the season, and accompanied by a packed Rennes yard chanting “We are here, even if you don't deserve it, we are here”.

The hammer blow at the hour mark

With three changes made at half-time, Rennes came back after the break with Santamaria whose header from a corner went over (50th). With a little more possession, the SRFC had no more control, however, messy and harmless until a recovery from the chest of Gouirii (59th), captured by Léon. A minute later, on a lightning counter started by Jota on the left wing, Gouiri was found full axis and quickly served Kalimuendo. The attacker transformed with a shot from the right, 2-1… until the club blow for Rennais.

Called by the VAR, Gaël Angoula finally canceled the Rennes goal to whistle an Auxerre penalty at the start of the action, for a foul by Faye. The shot on goal was transformed by Sinayoko entering the game. 3-0 and an emotional lift for the Rouge et Noir.

Nothing worked in Rennes' favor, far from being efficient, and who even saw a 3rd goal canceled for offside by Kalimuendo (73rd). Auxerre continued to worry Rennes, particularly from a corner, but Truffert averted the danger (79th). Despite the entry of Gronbaek, Renens was unable to create any significant chances, and lost to the newly promoted Auxerre.

At the end of an insufficient performance, Rennes plunged into crisis at Auxerre, losing by four goals for the first time in the league in eight years. SRFC is only one point away from 16th place, after 10 days.
