A dramatic Paris Masters wrapped up Masters 1000 action on the ATP Tour for 2024, with a fair few surprises emerging during a hectic week at the Accor Arena.
Just one of the top four seeds made it to the semi-finals and it was that one player – third seed Alexander Zverev – who capitalised, downing surprise finalist Ugo Humbert to win his second title of 2024.
Here, we look at the big winners and big losers from action in the French capital.
Big Winners
Alexander Zverev: With Jannik Sinner withdrawing and Carlos Alcaraz out early, Zverev was handed a golden chance – and took it. Victory in the final sealed a seventh career Masters 1000 title, and built a solid cushion over Alcaraz as the world No 2.
Ugo Humbert: The French No 1 was not at his best in the final but a run to a first Masters 1000 title, in front of a home crowd, is something to celebrate. His epic third round victory over Alcaraz will live long in the memory.
Karen Khachanov: The Russian’s semi-final loss to Humbert has not come without controversy, but a strong end to the season – after a difficult middle patch of 2024 – could set him up well for 2025. He’ll be back in the top 20 on Monday.

Big Losers
Carlos Alcaraz: Indoor tennis remains the one challenge that Alcaraz is still yet to overcome. A disappointing campaign in Paris is the latest early Masters 1000 exit for him; a key reason why he’ll drop to world No 3 on Monday.
Jannik Sinner: The world No 1 was unable to take to court in Paris after failing to recover from Paris. A disappointing end to what’s been a remarkable season at Masters 1000 level.
Andrey Rublev: An opening loss to Francisco Cerundolo contributed to the Russian dropping out of the top 8 of the ATP Race, and he’ll scramble for points in Metz next week. A weird season continues for the world No 7.
Daniil Medvedev: Speaking of weird seasons, Medvedev has not won a title throughout 2024, and lost his opening match in Paris for the third straight year. It’s hard to see him making an impact at the ATP Finals.
Casper Ruud: Ruud has probably done enough to qualify for Turin, but his drab second half of the season continued with his fourth loss in five meetings against Jordan Thompson. The Norwegian is limping over the 2024 finish line.
Winner…and loser?
Holger Rune: A run to the last four was a reminder of just how good the Dane can be on his day, but he rarely threatened Zverev in their semi-final – and has not done enough to reach Turin.
Stefanos Tsitsipas: Similarly to Rune, the Greek showed signs of life in Paris but fell in the last eight to Zverev. He’ll finish the year outside the top 10 and misses the ATP Finals for the first time since 2018.
Alex de Minaur: The Australian’s run to the last eight saw him move into the top eight of the race, ahead of Rublev. However, he failed to extend his advantage after losing to Rune – and needs to ensure qualification in Belgrade.
