The man was hospitalized after consuming a can.
A new suspicion of botulism has been reported. A 65-year-old man was hospitalized overnight from Thursday to Friday in the intensive care unit of Grenoble University Hospital after consuming a canned pork terrine.
Analyzes, carried out by the Pasteur Institute, of the remains of the canned goods demonstrated the presence of botulinum toxin. The Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency has issued the alert. The Isère prefecture announced the recall of these preserves made on the farm this Friday, November 1st. It is an artisanal production from the Les Peupliers farm in Mottier (Isère), underlines Le Dauphiné Libération. “Production conditions do not guarantee the sterilization of the jars”authorities said. It is about “a few dozen” of canned goods put on sale at the farm “Chez Barbier”, in Mottier, adds the prefecture.
Botulism is a very serious neurological condition that can be fatal. People who have purchased these cans must absolutely not consume them or open them. The Isère prefecture calls “people who have consumed these products should exercise the greatest vigilance and consult a doctor in the event of symptoms“, namely vision problems, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, difficulty speaking.
Last September, a woman died and seven people were hospitalized after consuming canned sardines in a wine bar in Bordeaux.
