1 year after the murder of lawyer Claudia Van Der Stichelen: which avenues are still being investigated? And are there any suspects in sight yet?

It is striking that at no time did the man appear to make any effort to conceal his identity. He walked into the house in broad daylight, fired a total of 6 bullets in full view of several eyewitnesses and then walked coolly out of the street.

Based on the witness reports, the police drew up a profile of the perpetrator. It concerns an older man between 50 and 80 years old with white skin color. He is said to be taller than 1m80 and of normal build.

According to witnesses, the man walked straight and had a wrinkled forehead and light gray hair with a high hairline. The man is also said to have had large ears and a large nose and to have spoken with a clear East Flemish accent.

On the day of the incident, the man is said to have worn a striking blue-gray overall and green boots.

After the facts, the public prosecutor’s office quickly sent out a robot photo of the suspect. It ultimately turned out to be unusable, because according to eyewitnesses the photo did not resemble the man they saw commit the murder on October 28.

In June this year, the police sent out an investigation notice and asked anyone who had more information to come forward. Since then, about 40 tips have been received, but according to our sources, no one has been officially charged.
