In a press release, Nantes Métropole announced this Monday, October 21, that it had decided, with Le Lieu unique, that Pascal Boniface, French geopolitologist, founder and director of the Institute of International and Strategic Relations, would not be associated with future editions. of Nantes Geopolitics.
“Unspeakable remarks”
The reason: comments about X against Karim Bouamrane, socialist mayor of Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine (Seine-Saint-Denis). The geopolitical researcher called him a “Muslim in appearance”. “The comments made by Pascal Boniface on X (formerly Twitter) towards Karim Bouamrane are unspeakable and contrary to the republican universalism to which Nantes is particularly attached”, write Nantes Métropole and Le Lieu unique.
In his tweet, Pascal Boniface reacted to an excerpt from a show, on France 2where Karim Bouamrane refused to speak on the war in the Middle East. The reactions were quick. Since then, the director of Iris has withdrawn his tweet, “while maintaining the substantive questions that I ask in the face of silence regarding an unacceptable situation in Gaza.”
In 2013, Pascal Boniface launched Geopolitics in Nantes. A very popular event every year. He will no longer be associated with it. The City of Dijon also announced that “Les Internationales de Dijon”, organized by the City, in partnership with Pascal Boniface’s think tank, was canceled.
