Clermont – Club : match summary

Top 14 (7th day). ASM Clermont Auvergne – RC : 55-33

The yellow furia in two stages in the first period

At home, Clermont is formidable. And the Auvergnats were even volcanic from the start of the match. From the 7th minute, a penalty try rewarded a good Clermont maul following a penalty. Less than ten minutes later, Killian Tixeront flattened after a nice movement on the counterattack. After Benjamin Urdapilleta’s transformation, ASM already led 14-3 in the 15th minute (Lafage had scored his first penalty two minutes earlier). After an air gap from Clermont and an interception from Robin Taccola synonymous with a try (converted) for Vannes (14-13, 24′) and a new penalty from Lafage allowing the Bretons to go in front for the first time (14- 16, 33′), the RCV took two new tries almost in quick succession. Falgoux went to queen after a ball carried following a touch (another) then Urapilleta sent a candle from his own camp into the Vannes 15 meters. The ball was recovered by his teammate Belleau after bouncing off Surano’s chest under pressure from Raka. The former Toulonnais scored a fourth try for Clermont. Urdapilleta missed the conversion. 24-16 at halftime.

…but indiscipline was costly

If Maxime Lafage took advantage of Auvergne’s faults before a 100% penalty and in particular four penalties, it was Vannes’ indiscipline which weighed the most on the match. While the RCV was at 15 against 14 following a yellow card addressed to Urdapilleta for a voluntary forward on the action leading to the try of the hope signed Thibault Debaes (31-26, 52′), Sione Kalamafoni ( high tackle on Jauneau) then Jules Le Bail (collapse of a maul) also received a yellow card (57′ and 58′). At 13 against 14 for around five minutes then at 13 against 15, the Bretons logically broke down. Massa, Darricarrère then Tixeront went to flatten for Clermont. 50-26 in the 65th minute. The score was as heavy as a good truffade. After ten minutes of resistance, George Moala scored one last Clermont try. The last stand of Vannes’ honor, two minutes later and many phases of play until beyond the siren allowed the Chilean Iñaki Ayarza to save the honor. 55-33, final score.
