Bad weather: in the Creillois Basin, “this is the first time that we have experienced such waterfalls”

The cars parade then leave. “Is it closed? », asks a man. In return, the response is tirelessly the same: “It’s closed sir, we were flooded last night, we can’t open to the public. » The Sud Oise recycling plant, located in Villers-Saint-Paul, is suffering the blow. Last Thursday, the place had already suffered damage from bad weather and had to close its doors for a day. A customer worries: “It’s a catastrophic year for the climate. »

The Creillois Basin was hit hard by the heavy rains which fell for hours on Thursday, October 17. “ les Bains”, quips an Internet user on social networks. The images speak for themselves: in Creil, Nogent-sur-Oise, Montataire and Villers-Saint-Paul, downpours transformed portions of the roads into swimming pools.

The city’s bus network was even completely interrupted on Thursday evening, and train traffic was severely disrupted. In Chantilly and Villers-Saint-Paul, the stations had no other choice but to close to the public. The situation has since returned to normal. “For the first time, the area around the station was submerged. This has never happened before,” we lament in the office of the mayor of Villers.

In Nogent-sur-Oise, the rapid rise in water surprised some drivers, forcing them to abandon their cars. Two vehicles with damaged engines had to be evacuated by municipal services. According to the municipality, there is little other damage to deplore, apart from a tree described as fragile and on the verge of being cut down, which did not withstand the bad weather and crashed into a garden tree.

In the neighboring town of Creil, the mayor (PS) Jean-Claude Villemain “was not leading far” regarding the rise in the level of the Oise, which, fortunately, did not overflow. “This is the first time we have experienced such waterfalls. This is a first of such violence and such duration,” assured the councilor.

Water rushed into seven schools in the town, but there were no consequences for the children. “Around twenty municipal agents intervened last night to pump the water and clean up. All schools were open this morning in Creil,” Jean-Claude Villemain also specified. For the rest, the municipality has three flooded underground car parks in the area of rue de la République and Saint-Médard church, without damage to cars. The Gournay-les-Usines district also suffered slightly, with some cellars flooded.
