Chef Nick Bril moves star restaurant The Jane to a new location: the well-known chapel became too expensive

Nick Bril, the recently discredited chef of star restaurant The Jane, has terminated the lease for his business, writes The Latest News. The chapel in ‘t Groen Kwartier would have become too expensive.

After ten years, The Jane disappears from the Green Quarter in Antwerp. The business was founded by Sergio Herman and Nick Bril, and was immediately extremely popular. In 2021, Herman sold the business to Bril, who was discredited last year because he ran over his assistant chef in the parking lot of the star business while under the influence.

According to The Latest News The reason for the move is mainly the high rent. In the early years, when still together with Sergio Herman, Bril paid 16,562 euros per month. From January 2017, the rent rose to 20,703 euros. Nowadays the chef pays no less than 23,173 euros per month for the building. Unsustainable, as it turns out.

An advertisement for the building appeared on Linkedin on Thursday, showing that the chapel would be available again from the spring of 2025.

On January 8, the star chef ran over assistant chef Joe Claridge in the parking lot of his restaurant. The man in his thirties suffered life-threatening injuries, was in a coma for a long time and eventually lost both legs. The police determined that the star chef had bloodshot eyes and gave off an odor of alcohol. Bril blew positive and turned out to have 1.67 per mille of alcohol in his blood. The council chamber in Antwerp has not yet been able to consider the request of the public prosecutor’s office to refer him to the criminal court. Bril’s lawyer has requested additional investigation.
