The De Lijn strike continues: even today there is disruption in large parts of Flanders

Due to a strike by the drivers of De Lijn, there is disruption to bus traffic in the Flemish outskirts, parts of East Flanders and now also the Kempen on Friday morning. This is reported by the public transport company.

A spontaneous strike broke out among bus drivers in the Flemish outskirts on Thursday. The reason is dissatisfaction about canceled journeys and new work schedules. Bus drivers from the depots of Halle, Asse, Vilvoorde and Grimbergen, but also in Ninove and Dendermonde in East Flanders, did not leave. Despite consultations, the strike will continue on Friday.

Bus drivers from the Kempen joined the action on Friday morning, De Lijn said. Resulting in serious inconvenience. This concerns the Turnhout, Hoogstraten, Broechem, Mol, Oostmalle and Heist-op-den-Berg depots. Later Friday, the Wuustwezel and Rumst depots in Antwerp were also added. (Read more below the post)

In the context of the regulations regarding basic accessibility, De Lijn wants to cancel certain journeys from January. And the unions do not agree with that. The abolition of weekend services is a major annoyance. In addition, more split services would be introduced, with drivers doing part of their journeys in the morning and evening, with an afternoon free.
