Digital booklet warns against Pix scams

The Brazilian Bar Association – Pernambuco Section (OAB-PE), through the Defense, Assistance and Prerogatives Commission (CDAP), launched the booklet “Protection against PIX scams: guidelines for law and society”, with the objective of warning about the risks of fraud involving Pix transactions. According to the order, in addition to guiding society, the initiative aims to protect the legal profession. The booklet covers the main types of scams, practical security guidelines and recommendations on how to proceed if fraud is suspected.

Thinking about its union members, the UFPE Teachers’ Association (Adufepe) also provides material that contains guidance on how to identify and avoid increasingly frequent scams. In recent years, the entity has received dozens of complaints from teachers contacted by scammers using the name of the association’s law firms, as warned by the lawyer from Adufepe’s legal department.

“Sharing the OAB guide on scams involving Pix is crucial, especially because we are repeatedly seeing cases of people pretending to be lawyers from our legal department. The booklet warns about common frauds in which criminals use the names of lawyers and firms to deceive victims, asking for bank transfers. This disclosure not only protects the academic community, but also strengthens prevention against scams that directly affect the credibility of institutions and their professionals”, declared Erica Caroline.

Scams involving Pix generally occur through deception in which criminals pose as law firms or other professionals, requesting false payments, or use methods such as account cloning and messaging applications to convince victims to transfer amounts. These attacks are fast and often difficult to reverse, which makes prevention and increased attention in electronic transactions essential.
