On Thursday, the Red Devils were keen to move forward in the Nations League after their defeat against France in September. And if Domenico Tedesco’s men returned from Italy with the sharing point in their bag, which in itself is not a bad result, they did not entirely convince.
Trailing from the first minute of play and outclassed during a good part of the first period, the Belgians were not in the lead, with some observers not hesitating to speak of a tactical disaster. It was the exclusion of Lorenzo Pellegrini shortly before half-time that would change the face of the match. Without really shining in numerical superiority, the Devils still managed to come back to the score (2-2) in a meeting which could certainly have turned into a disaster.
Black beast
This snatched point still allows Belgium (4 points), third, to stay in contact with the French (6 pts), easily victorious over Israel, and three lengths behind the Italians (7 pts). On Monday, the Devils therefore have a great opportunity to take their destiny back into their own hands with the reception of France, which over the years has become a real beast for Belgium.
To hope to maintain all their chances of qualifying for the knockout phase, they will nevertheless have to show a better face than against Italy and, above all, than during the first leg in France. Last September in Lyon, the Devils were indeed worried about their level of play, delivering an insipid performance against Didier Deschamps’ troops (2-0).
Faced with the Blues who are certainly superior on paper, despite the absence of Kylian Mbappé remained in Madrid, the Red Devils have a new revenge to take and must show that they have learned from their mistakes. A victory in an official match against the Blues, moreover in a sold-out King Baudouin stadium, would also do a lot of good, the last one dating back to 1981…
