Saint-Denis: 8,000 eggs were distributed by employees of the Couvée d’Or company

This Wednesday, eggs were distributed to the entire population in front of the Saint-Denis prefecture. This is an Avi-Pôle operation to protest against the reduction in orders for chicks undertaken by the Duchemann and Grondin group, from the Evollys slaughterhouse. This action is being carried out on the eve of a decision by the commercial court which should rule on the possible takeover of governance of the slaughterhouse by Urcoopa.

8,000 eggs are being distributed to people by breeders and employees of the Couvée d’or company.

“Today the Couvée d’or company is forced to destroy 60,000 hatching eggs every week while at the same time, another actor has chosen to look for eggs and import them. The action this morning it is to raise awareness among consumers, the people of Island, about what is happening, which is a total aberration about what is happening to encourage imports.” explains Hervé Donnar, director of the Couvée d’Or company.

The action is to raise awareness among consumers and in Reunion Island in particular. Today we produce péi, the interest is employment above all. We install farmers…. if we take imported eggs we will create unemployment and locally our pride is in creating pei chicks at a fair price from which the consumer will also benefit from the purchase. Our interest in the cooperative is the Reunion consumer and the farmers and local production“, declares Patrick Leveneur, president of Avi-Pôle.
