Ministers Sadi, Ndongo and Owona reject persistent rumors surrounding Paul Biya’s state of health

Yaoundé (© 2024 Afriquinfos) – Faced with the multiple speculations which are rife, regarding the state of health of President Paul Biya, the Cameroonian presidency reassures about the excellent state of health of the Head of State. In a press release published late in the afternoon of Tuesday October 8, René Sadi, the Minister of Communication and government spokesperson, denounced rumors which “ are fantasy and pure imagination », rumor to which he says he formally denies.

« The head of state granted himself a brief private stay in Europe », informs René Sadi, but “ he remains, as usual, and wherever he is, attentive to the evolution of national life », Continues the Minister of Communication.

René Emmanuel Sadi also condemned the destabilization attempts carried out by certain media and ill-intentioned individuals. He called on Cameroonians not to be distracted by this false information aimed at sowing confusion. The government also assures that Paul Biya will return to Cameroon in the coming days.

In a press release signed by Samuel Ayolo Mvondo, Director of the Civil Cabinet, it is specified that President Biya, currently on a private stay in Geneva after his participation in the China-Africa Summit in Beijing, is in good health and continues to follow the affairs of the country.

For Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, member of the Political Bureau of the CPDM Central Committee and Secretary of Communication, these are unfounded allegations. He urged Cameroonians to demonstrate political maturity and patriotism, based on verifiable facts rather than fantasies.

The Minister of Labor, Grégoire Owona, declared on Tuesday afternoon that those who try to deceive public opinion by announcing the death of the Cameroonian head of state must “ pay the high price “. The appropriate institutions must take action against these impostors.

‘In our institutions, there are mechanisms which must make it possible to prosecute this type of person because we do not announce the death of a head of state without ensuring what is happening”, he also warned.

Supposed death of Paul Bya announced

The government’s reaction was triggered by a video broadcast this Tuesday morning by ABS (Africa Broadcasting Service), a private television channel based in Houston, in the United States, which announced the death of the President, claiming to have information from Cameroon, Switzerland and .

For several days, alarming rumors concerning the President’s health have been circulating on social networks and certain media. Faced with this situation, the Civil Cabinet and the Ministry of Communication have firmly denied this information, describing it as pure fiction.

The absence of the Cameroonian president is in almost every conversation, both in televised debates and on social networks, with a question on repeat: “Where is Paul Biya? »

The 91-year-old leader left the country on September 2 to take part in the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (Focac) organized from September 4 to 6, 2024.

It is since these dates that he has not made any public appearance. Announced at the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations, then at the summit of the Francophonie, then at the gathering on sustainable development in Hamburg, Germany, the Cameroonian leader did not appear at these meetings which he misses yet with difficulty.
