Storm Kirk crosses the : follow the evolution of the situation

Storm Kirk began to approach the department from the west on Wednesday morning, October 9, around 6 a.m. The enters orange rain/flood alert from 10 a.m.

If you take a look out the window, you can see it, with its already relatively intense rains, in the Orléanais region in particular, since the night
from Tuesday to Wednesday. No wind yet, northwest of the Loiret, at the start
morning: Storm Kirk (originally a hurricane, formed off the coast of Senegal), arriving from the west, really began to approach the Loiret, Wednesday morning, October 9, at around 6 a.m.

The main thing.

– At 10 a.m., Loiret switched to orange rain/flood vigilance, like twenty-nine other departments.

– At 8 a.m., the Bricy weather station (for Orléanais) already showed 5 to 6 mm of precipitation since midnight. And it’s only just beginning… Let’s remember that in the space of 24 hours, according to forecasts, “between 30 and 50 mm of water should fall on the Gien and Montargis sectors”. The north of the department should be the most affected, according to Aurélien Charron, of the Météo Centre-Val de association. Where we expect “between 50 and 80 mm, particularly in the regions of Pithiviers and Malesherbois”. And more widely in Beauce…

– The wind will also blow: “It should really pick up at the end of the day, but more in the south of the region. With average winds in Gien and Montargis… between 40 and 50 km/hour, and possible gusts between 60 and 80 km/hour.”

– To summarize: precipitation should be uninterrupted in the Loiret on Wednesday October 9, “with a big reactivation of the rain, mainly in the north (Orléans, Pithiviers…), around 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. An episode, which according to models, should last until midnight As the soils are already saturated by the precipitation of the last thirty days, localized flooding is possible.

– The City of Orléans closes all its parks, gardens and cemeteries for the day
from October 9.
