For pedestrians and motorists, it is difficult to move around the Old Port district this Tuesday. After torrential rains, Marseille is plagued by flooding. Between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., nearly a month’s worth of precipitation fell. Traders see the damage.
“This happened several times in September, and now it’s happening again in October. It’s very difficult.”explains a cook whose restaurant was flooded.
Some Internet users have filmed surprising scenes where car traffic is made almost impossible.
Water infiltrated many buildings, such as this school, which had to temporarily close, like dozens of others in the city.
“According to Météo-France, 80 mm of rain fell during the episode. The water rose, the school was impassable, it was not possible to access the classrooms. This would not have been reasonable to welcome the children this morning”explains Marc Faveau, deputy general director of daily town in Marseille.
