Injured cruciate ligaments, Dani Carvajal will be absent for – Real Madrid

Champions League (8th day): Real Madrid – Stade Brestois, January 29, 2025 (9 p.m.)

Hard blow for Real Madrid. Dani Carvajal, indisputable right back of the reigning Spanish and European champion, left the pitch in tears after a contact that occurred at the very end of the Merengue match against Villarreal (2-0) on Saturday. The 32-year-old defender confirmed this Sunday a “serious injury” to his cruciate ligaments, requiring an operation and leading to several months of unavailability.

Lucas Vazquez tipped to replace him

Dani Carvajal had already taken part in 13 matches since the start of the season (11 at club and 2 with La Roja), including 12 as a starter. Real Madrid will therefore have to do without, possibly until the end of the season, the services of their vice-captain, second in the hierarchy behind Luka Modric. Carvajal is already out of the match against Stade Brestois, scheduled for Wednesday January 29 (9 p.m.) at the Roudourou stadium for the eighth and final day of the league phase.

In the absence of the man with 427 appearances with the Madrilenians, another experienced one, Lucas Vazquez (357 matches), should hold the line during this period. While waiting, perhaps, for reinforcement at the position during the transfer window in January.
