Fofana, Cherki, a gold mine for the winter transfer window?

In tough times financially, OL have the wind in their sails sportingly. Enough to help him sell certain talents at the best price, from the January transfer window? John Textor’s club should find itself faced with some serious dilemmas.

Yesterday Thursday evening, Olympique Lyonnais more than honored the many supporters who made the trip to Glasgow. Without trembling, OL signed a second consecutive victory in the Europa League, the third in a row, in all competitions. Despite a significantly changed team compared to the one victorious in a few days earlier, Les Gones put their foot on the accelerator. And flew over the debates, helped by the magical trio Alexandre Lacazette – Rayan Cherki – Malick Fofana. Enough to already open hostilities concerning the winter transfer window?

OL, at odds with the DNCG, are desperately waiting for some good sales

The story has settled down somewhat with the sports season which has resumed. But , which aimed to sell in the 100 million euros range last summer, just to satisfy the DNCG, is still far from the mark. Obviously, a nice European course would be appropriate for Lyon’s finances. But this will probably not be enough to bring the accounts back into balance. Will the renewed energy recorded in the field in recent weeks encourage some big sales in January? In any case, John Textor and his people will have to make choices.

Mercato: Cherki and Fofana sacrificed in January?

When we think of a great sale in Lyon, we naturally think of Rayan Cherki. The Olympic vice-champion, mentioned at PSG, Borussia Dortmund, in England or even in Italy during the last summer transfer window, is still popular. OL extended his contract until 2026 before reinstating him in the professional group. Estimated at 25 million euros by specialist sites, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder, author of two goals and two assists in four matches, made his mark. Recently, Margot Dumont from Canal+ explained that in the event of a new offer, a departure was still possible this winter.

Same observation for Malick Fofana? First considered as a “Supersub”, the one who has just been called up for the first time for the Belgium team has proven that he has the makings of a starter. The 19-year-old left winger, recruited in January, cost OL nearly 20 million euros. There is no doubt that the Ligue 1 team will at least want to recover their initial investment. Two sales which could do a lot of good for Lyon’s coffers. Sportingly, on the other hand, these would be very big losses for Pierre Sage’s group. So, what to do?
