Emergency calls – Samu de : heroes in action

The , on the Côte d’Azur, has all the makings of a little paradise bathed in sunshine between the mountains and the sea. The department welcomes more than 8 million tourists each year. To ensure everyone’s peace and quiet, its capital has an extraordinary service of guardian angels: the doctors and nurses of the SAMU. Seven teams go into action at full speed 4,000 times a year. In the hinterland, they save the lives of motorcyclists injured on small, treacherous roads and go looking for hikers in emergency situations lost in the bush. On the coast, they perform miracles by saving dozens of drowning people. In town, they have to face the scourge of heart attacks, 6,500 per year in the department, which devastate increasingly young victims. Finally, in the suburbs, they are on the front line facing the settling of scores between rival gangs. Beatings, violent fights, Samu emergency workers spare no effort to help victims in poor condition. With 1,000 calls per day to the 15 switchboard, Samu doctors can also count on “Sauv-life”. This booming application lists nearly 400,000 volunteer rescuers across sent to an emergency near their home while waiting for help to arrive.
