After his disappointment at the US Open, Carlos Alcaraz got the machine back on track this week in Beijing and will play his quarter-final on Monday against Russian Karen Khachanov.

We left Carlos Alcaraz unrecognizable during the US Open with an elimination in the second round, which followed an exit upon his entry into Cincinnati. Morally affected after his setback in the Olympic final, the Spaniard needed time to digest this defeat against Novak Djokovic. Time helping to heal, the Iberian tennis player regained sensations with the Davis Cup and the Laver Cup before arriving in China. A profitable choice since the world number 3 lost in the first two rounds against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard then Tallon Griekspoor. With the optics of a final against Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz plays his tennis and could do the same on Monday against Karen Khachanov.

The Russian also had a difficult summer with poor performances at major tournaments such as Montreal and Cincinnati (2nd round) and the US Open (1st round). Setbacks which pushed Karen Khachanov out of the top 20 for the first time in 2 years. Released last week as soon as he entered the fray in Hangzhou, the Russian has recovered well in Beijing in recent days with successes over Roberto Carballes Beana and Francisco Cerundolo. Even if the level was not perfect, the two victories will have allowed the 27th player in the world to put a smile back on his face after a difficult period.
