Sunday January 26, it only took a few hours of precipitation in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) for the water to cover everything. Surprised, the inhabitants walk along the walls. The canal has overflowed and merges with the road. The streets are completely flooded. 50 mm of water fell in 24 hours, representing significant amounts of water on already waterlogged soils. A resident braves the waves. “I have to, otherwise I don’t go out and go shopping”he declares. In a parking lot, another examines the water level with a flashlight.

In the village of Pont-Réan (Ille-et-Vilaine), the river overflowed. The inhabitants travel by canoe, giving incredible scenes of a flood which requires rescue operations. “My mother who lives on the first floor of this building (…) will be evacuated”explains a woman. His mother is tested. “I’m not used to it”she confides. The situation was described as unprecedented for 40 years by the Ille-et-Vilaine prefecture.
