It happened on January 27 in Ain
On January 27, 1794, Antoine-Louis Albitte, representative of the revolutionary government, ordered the lowering of the three bells of the Notre-Dame-de-l'Annonciation Co-Cathedral in Bourg-en-Bresse to melt them into cannons. The decree also required the destruction of the bell tower. This action was part of a broader campaign affecting around 800 bell towers in Ain. The bell tower was repaired in October 1794 and new bells installed in 1796.
