My Boy on television, streaming on W9: reviews and information
Résumé :
Passionate about his job, Julien travels extensively abroad. This lack of presence caused his relationship to explode a few years ago. Excerpt from the review of Culture Bubbles on the feature film My Boy written during its screening at Angoulême Francophone Film Festival 2017 :
It's a concept film. The work was shot in six days without Guillaume Canet having read the script. (…) This therefore makes it an iconoclastic feature film of great originality. (…) However, very quickly, the film suffers from a lack of twists and turns. The second part is quite still. (…) We salute [néanmoins] the creative audacity of the director to embark on a concept film.

Filming secrets, anecdotes: did you know?
- This is the 5th feature film of Christian Carion.
- In the press kit, the director revealed his discussion with his main actor, Guillaume Canetbefore writing the film with his co-writer Laure Irrmann Carion : “'Guillaume, I want to follow through on an idea that is very simple. Your character is an absent man, always abroad. He comes back and learns things he didn't know. Can we imagine a situation where you, an actor, discover everything as you go along? That I don't give you a scenario? Would you be willing to take that risk?'
(…) I had him [aussi] showed a German film Victoria that I really like, shot in one sequence shot. We talked again about this film and we wanted to, not only have a main actor without a script, but also to shoot in real time, or almost. Bet everything on the moment…” - The filming lasted 6 days on the Vercors plateau (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), between Autrans-Méaudre et Corrençon-en-Vercors.
- The original music was composed by Laurent Perez del Mar.
- The film received the 2018 Jacques Deray Prize from the Institut Lumièrewhich rewards a feature-length detective film each year.
- Is there a My Boy 2 ? No, but Christian Carion shot, in 2020, a remake with James McAvoy et Claire Foy under the title My Son.
