Even with committing a turnover, the Chiefs have won a few times in the game’s margins. The Bills have scored two touchdowns, but the Chiefs have made impressive plays to take a 21-16 halftime lead. The Chiefs have had the better special teams unit so far. Receiver Nikko Remigio, who is in his first postseason tour, ignited Arrowhead with an impressive, start-and-stop-and-start-again punt return that went 41 yards, putting the offense deep in the Bills’ territory.
The reason the Bills had to punt in the second quarter was because of a little wrinkle from Steve Spagnuolo, the Chiefs’ longtime defensive coordinator. On the Bills’ third-and-10 snap, Spagnuolo technically dropped eight defenders into coverage but assigned linebacker Nick Bolton to be the spy defender on quarterback Josh Allen. With nowhere to run and each of the Bills’ receivers covered, Allen was forced to throw a deep pass that fell incomplete. The Chiefs, meanwhile, never punted, scoring three touchdowns along with their lone giveaway.
