It took James Cook one half to make Bills history in AFC championship game

The hype for this AFC championship game is living up to its expectation and it is getting setup for an ultimate ending. However, it took the Buffalo Bills a little longer to get something going. After receiving the opening kickoff, the Bills went three-and-out immediately and allowed the Kansas City Chiefs to drive it 90 yards for an opening drive touchdown.

After going down 7-0 early, the Bills were able to get on the board with a Tyler Bass 53-yard field goal. Then Buffalo’s defense managed to force a turnover and they capitalized on the takeaway.

James Cook was the main x-factor for the Bills on their first touchdown drive, creating hard runs to pick up yards. He was then rewarded with a six-yard rushing touchdown to give the Bills a 10-7 lead in the second quarter. The Bills adjusted and now they have forced a game against the Chiefs.

James Cook makes franchise history on Bills’ first touchdown vs. Chiefs

According to the Buffalo Bills PR X account, that rushing touchdown helped Cook join O.J. Simpson as the only Bills players in franchise history to have 20+ touchdowns in a season, both regular season and the playoffs. Simpson scored 23 touchdowns back in 1975.

Cook has been a scary weapon for the Bills in this offense. He can run it on the ground as well as become a weapon outside the numbers. In his last two seasons with the Bills, Cook has significantly improved his rushing stats in both yards and touchdowns. He continues to be the main guy for the Bills in the backfield and has taken a ton of pressure off of Josh Allen.

This game is going to be a true back-and-forth fight and the Bills cannot afford to make mistakes. They have come too far to have a heartbreak against the team that has dominated them in recent memory. Joe Brady has to do whatever it takes to keep Cook in the gameplan and keep him involved as much as possible.

If Cook can keep finding ways to break through to the second and third level, this Bills offense is going to be hard to stop throughout the night.
