The last time these two teams played was in Week 11 during the regular season, when Buffalo defeated Kansas City 30-21. Patrick Mahomes threw three touchdowns, but also had two interceptions. Since that game Mahomes has thrown 12 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Mahomes didn’t have his best statistical season in 2024, but he’s constantly done enough in the most important moments to get his team a win, leading to the top seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Kansas City didn’t beat Buffalo in Week 11, but that’s not uncommon.
Josh Allen is 4-1 against Mahomes and the Chiefs in the regular season. Mahomes is 3-0 against Allen and the Bills in the postseason.
The most memorable matchup between the two quarterbacks came in the Divisional round of the 2021-2022 season. Allen had just thrown his fourth touchdown — all of which were to Gabriel Davis — with 13 second remaining in the fourth quarter. Then Mahomes led his team into field goal range to force overtime, eventually beating Buffalo. Allen has yet another chance to top the best quarterback of this generation on Sunday.
Kansas City is a 1.5-point favorite, the over/under is 48.5.
