“Never got into the Action”
Not much later, the police found the Maëva car in Saint-Martin-aux-Chartrains, a village about ten kilometers from Trouville-sur-Mer, where the young couple lived. Her handbag was still in the car, groceries were not found. “She probably never got into the Action,” her mother testifies to local newspaper Ouest France.
In a garbage bin in the immediate vicinity of the car, the investigators found three mobile phones and also the dog of Maëva and Martin, who was also missing, was found in the neighborhood.

A large-scale manhunt was immediately started to the perpetrator and in the night from Friday to Saturday a suspect could be intercepted by the air and border police in Calais. The man, a thirties, was drunk at the time of the facts.

The suspect had first tried to escape from the police, but had lost control of his vehicle and bumped into a wall, after which the officers could grasp him. The man was taken seriously injured to the hospital, where he was placed in custody. “As soon as his health status permits, he will appear before the investigating judge,” said the responsible magistrate.
The autopsy of Martin now confirmed that the young man had died of the consequences of a gunshot, the autopsy of Maëva will take place early next week. The Caen public prosecutor’s office stated that he did not yet know about the possible motive of the perpetrator. “No hypothesis is excluded,” it was said on Thursday.
