Is ‘Saturday Night Live’ New Tonight and Who’s Hosting? (January 25, 2025)

The ever-iconic Saturday Night Live has officially entered its landmark 50th season. Created by Lorne Michaelsthe late-night sketch comedy show has been airing on NBC since 1975, with the inaugural episode hosted by stand-up legend George Carlinwhich was portrayed in Jason Reitman’s Saturday Nightwhich is now streaming on Netflix. The series has received a whopping 84 Emmy wins, the most out of any other television show in history, and has been hailed by many as one of the greatest shows of all time. The series is headlined by a supremely talented ensemble of comic performers, a host (often there to promote a new project), a musical guest, and numerous cameos.

Will There Be a New Episode of ‘SNL’ Tonight?

Yes, there will be a new episode of SNL tonight. Since its inception, Saturday Night Live has always aired live from New York on NBC, and that’s probably not ever going to change. Season 50, Episode 12, will air on Saturday, January 25, at 11:30 pm ESTboth on NBC and streaming on Peacock. The new episode will also be available to stream on Peacock afterward, along with every other season of the show. This will notably be the first episode of 2025.

Who Is Hosting ‘SNL’ This Week?

Academy Award nominee Titihee Chalamet is set to host tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live. This will mark his third time hosting the show, after hosting in 2020 and 2023. Chalamet has become a fan-favorite host on the show, particularly for his wannabe rapper character Smokecheddathaassgetta.

Chalamet is just coming off receiving his second Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for portraying music icon Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown. The music drama received seven additional nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (James Mangold), Best Supporting Actress (Monica Barbaro), Best Supporting Actor (Edward Norton), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, and Best Sound. In addition, Chalamet’s other 2024 release, Dune: Part Tworeceived five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Chalamet was previously nominated in 2018 for his role in the queer romance Call Me By Your Name.

Despite still being under the age of 30, Chalamet has worked with some of the most prestigious and celebrated auteurs in Hollywood, including Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name and Bones and All), Christopher Nolan (Interstellar), Denis Villeneuve (Dune and Dune: Part Two), Wes Anderson (The French Dispatch), Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird and Little Women), James Mangold (A Complete Unknown), Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up) and Paul King (Wonka). Chalamet’s other acting credits include roles in The King, Beautiful Boy, Hostiles, Homeland, Hot Summer Nightsand Men, Women & Children.

Chalamet will next be seen playing the title role in Benny Safdie‘s ping pong dramedy Marty Supremewhich is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2025. The film is said to be very loosely inspired by real-life ping pong player Marty Reisman and will be tonally in the same vein as The Wolf of Wall Street and Catch Me If You Can.

Who Is the Musical Guest On This Week’s ‘SNL’?

In a surprise twist, Timothèe Chalamet will be pulling double-duty on tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Liveas he’ll also be serving as the musical guest.

Chalamet isn’t necessarily known to be a musician, which makes this announcement raise some eyebrows. However, after garnering much acclaim for his singing in A Complete Unknownit is safe to assume that he’ll be performing some of Bob Dylan’s discography. Who knows, maybe even Dylan himself will make a surprise appearance to play alongside Chalamet.

So far, the Season 50 musical guest lineup has included Jelly Roll, Coldplay, Stevie Nicks, Billie Earth, Chappell Roan, Mk.geeCharli XCX, Shaboozey, Gracie Abrams, Hozierand Glorilla.

As with any long-running television program, the cast of Saturday Night Live has radically changed through the years. Credited as “repertory players” for Season 50 are Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Michael Longfellow, Monwadim money, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, Devon Walker, Bowen Yangand Weekend Update anchors Michael who and Colin Jost. Who Is Hosting the Next Episode of ‘SNL’?

As of right now, we don’t know who will be hosting after Chalamet. However, the much anticipated three-hour prime-time special, Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Specialwill be airing on February 16, 2025. This will serve as a mega-episode of the show, featuring not only the current cast but also many former cast members, hosts, and musical acts from the past five decades of the show.
